Louis and Regina were not just husband and wife, but also uncle and niece. Actually, they were half-uncle and half-niece. (I made up that terminology).

An uncle and niece have two common ancestors, the parents of the uncle, and the grandparents of the niece. Regina and Louis only shared one common ancestor, his father, her grandfather. His mother and her grandmother were different people. This is because her grandfather (his father) married twice.
